Mindful masculinity is the intentional integration—through compassionate, non-judgmental awareness—of the masculine and feminine wisdom that exists within all of us.

The Need To Be Loved

I want to feel that I’m needed somewhere by somebody. I want to know that someone cares for me. I am cared for but I want to be cared for by more people. Things these people do that make me feel loved is kiss me, give me presents, being together, keeping my body and clothes clean, feeding me food to eat and energy by hugging me. Love wants me to love other people, so I do!

If you didn’t have love I don’t think you could live! I feel loved when my cat licks me or rubs her head against my knee. I feel love from looking at a flower, but you don’t have to see beauty to be loved. Like if I love the ugliest person in the world I wouldn’t mind! Love you can see and feel. Love is disappointing—it goes in cycles. Sometimes it turns into ugliness or hatred. I usually go to someone else who can give me love when love is disappointing. Sometimes that journey is easy but mostly it’s hard. The journey is gloomy and ugly. When it is ugly, I feel ugly, sad, not wanted like in a damp forest, weird, everything is leaving you! Then I start running to find the other love. Then I feel excited and it’s like light is shining all over.

- Jeff Cole, 1976 (age 12)

“A thought transfixed me: for the first time in my life I saw the truth as it is set into song by so many poets, proclaimed as the final wisdom by so many thinkers. The truth—that love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and human belief have to impart: The salvation of man is through love and in love.”

- Victor Frankl
